The Village Pupils Claim London Panathlon Title at Olympic Park
18th June 2015
London Panathlon Final – Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Thursday 18th June 2015
The Village School representing Brent managed to reach the London Finals for a second successive year. We finished last year’s event in 2nd place and were aiming to go one step further this year and win the competition. This was a tough task as 100 schools representing all 32 boroughs have taken part in this year’s Panathlon Challenge, however we were optimistic that today we could produce our best when it mattered most.
We arrived at the arena and were keen to get on with the mornings events. 1st place in Boccia, Table Cricket, New Age Kurling and 2nd place in Polybat put us in a strong position going into the field athletics. These events also provided us with some excellent results: 1st place in Javelin, Seated Shot Putt, Standing Long Jump, Powerchair Slalom and a 3rd place in Precision Bean Bag.
Going into the relay races we knew victory was likely but the students maintained their focus and completed the races with another 1st place. As it was announced Brent had won the competition our reaction was incredible. Our students were delighted and I was so proud of them.
We have been training really hard for this competition, it was great to see the students taking on board all the advice regarding tactics and technique’s we have been teaching them and implementing them so well in the final. They deserve a huge congratulations for their hard work, determination and sporting ability to make them worthy London Champions!
A film of our fantastic achievement can be seen below.
Well done everyone!
