Our Family Workers are available to support parents / carers in a wide range of areas:

Support with Social Services

  • Partnership with Social Services – ensuring maximum cooperation of the family members in getting the best for their child/ward
  • Ensuring awarness of benefits, support in making a claim, filling in forms
  • Trying to settle minor disputes e.g. between members of the family and between local authority agencies and families

Support with school issues

  • Attending Annual Reviews and team around the child
  • Attending school meetings and medicals within the school
  • Organise Pet Therapy sessions for Early Years
  • Home visits for new students into the school to ascertain the parents’ needs and how the child/ward can be assisted in settling into school as soon as possible. Follow up visits are also arranged on a need-to basis
  • Organising and facilitating groups i.e. Mothers group, SLD group, PMLD group, ASD group and Makaton group
  • Work in partnership with nurses, Physio, OT and TAMHS especially when explaining to parents their responsibilities as expected by these staff
  • Joint home visit with different agencies

Support at home

  • Identifying parents’ needs, providing them with information and recommending the proper agencies to be contacted to provide these needs.

Support with training

  • Organising assessment for courses e.g. ICT and English
  • Organising training and workshops
  • Accompany parents for hospital appointment
  • Attending developmental courses

Support with future transitions

  • Organise and facilitate Transition Meetings for our 6th form leavers
  • Organise and facilitate visits to local colleges for our 6th form leavers
  • Have drop in sessions for parents regarding information about transition process
  • Facilitate Person Centred Planning (PCP) meetings for our students in Years 9, 12, 14
  • Support Parents at school meetings regarding concerns/empowering them to interact with school life
  • Liaise with ex-pupils to continue contact after leaving The Village School
